Seminar: The role of networks in the transition to net-zero
The energy transition and the increased renewable deployment needed to meet our climate targets will require the current electricity and gas systems to evolve. A more integrated, increasingly electrified energy system will be essential.
The existing institutional arrangements in the UK energy system were not designed to meet the operability challenges of a low-carbon energy system. Ofgem will need to play an important role in making this transition and establishing the Future System Operator (FSO).
This seminar will cover the challenges of grid development to achieve the scale of electrification needed to support net-zero. It will also explore the key role of regulation on grid development and on facilitating renewable energy deployment.
