Scottish Renewables Annual Conference 2018 About the Event

Scottish Renewables' Annual Conference 2018

Our latest blog wraps up this week's Annual Conference in Edinburgh

If there's one thing that can be said of Scotland's renewable energy industry, it's that it's never dull.

As usual, the sector has had another year of highs and lows.

There have been successes for offshore renewables – notably MORL’s CfD, the end of the legal hiatus hampering the consented Forth and Tay offshore wind farms, and record after record in the tidal sector and continued growth in renewable heat. However, challenges remain, with MeyGen failing to secure a Contract for Difference in September.

Onshore, large wind and solar PV remain without a route to market, while business rate increases – quickly followed by a cap and its extension – have hit hydro particularly hard.

The next 12 months are likely to set the tone for the industry’s future.

Our heat sector should find out what future exists beyond the current Renewable Heat Incentive budget; the priorities set out in the UK Government’s Budget, Industrial Strategy and Clean Growth Strategy will start to play out through Sector Deals and innovation funding; the small-scale renewables sector will have its say in the long-awaited Feed-in Tariff consultation; and the next Contracts for Difference auction will be due to progress in the Spring.

We will also start to consider the implications of the Scottish Government’s finalised Energy Strategy, Climate Change Plan, Climate Bill and Planning Bill.

Scottish Renewables’ Annual Conference 2018 will take place against a background of these debates and examine in detail what these changes mean for all parts of Scotland’s renewable energy industry.

Join us in Edinburgh to hear from top-level speakers and debate the issues that matter to our members and the wider renewables industry.

Who should attend?

Owners, operators, developers, suppliers and users of energy, as well as supply chain, regulators, advisers and financiers; local and central government, professional services, academia and community groups – anyone with an interest in the development and growth of renewable energy in Scotland.
