The ‘End of Life Materials Mapping for Offshore Wind in Scotland’ report

A new report released today (July 12) by the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, in partnership with Zero Waste Scotland, has identified the vast quantity of materials needed to develop the Scottish offshore wind market.

Responding, Charlotte Stamper, Senior Policy Manager at Scottish Renewables, said:

"Scotland's offshore wind sector is set to transform our coastlines on a scale the country has never seen before as we work towards achieving the target of 11GW by 2030.

"This report, for the first time, puts a number on the quantity of materials needed to achieve this ambition and highlights the vast potential for Scotland’s supply chain to bring investment and deliver tens of thousands of skilled jobs across the country.

"To harness this we must act now and work together to establish a robust sector that has the technology, skills and infrastructure required to deliver these projects and compete in the global offshore wind market.

"Investing in the local supply chain, which often struggles to compete with international firms whose labour and commodity costs are lower, is made much harder by the need to drive down costs for the competitive Contract for Difference auction process. We urge the UK government to consider CfD reform away from pure cost reduction to ensure that resilience and sustainability can be embedded in the UK supply chain."
