Prime Minister set to water down UK's net-zero policies
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is expected to announce changes to the UK Governement's net-zero policies at a press conference later today (September 20).
Responding, Nick Sharpe, Director of Communications and Strategy at Scottish Renewables, said:
“Pulling back on longstanding commitments which will help the UK become more energy secure, save consumers money and tackle climate change is simply the wrong path to take.
“Our industry needs to raise billions of pounds from international investors if we’re to deliver on our enormous promise. Today’s announcements – rightly called ‘a mis-step on many levels’ by one of our members – will worry those investors at a time when the UK needs them most.
“With the EU and US already offering compelling incentives for green energy businesses it is imperative that the Prime Minister urgently addresses the issue of investor confidence if the UK is to have any hope of competing in the race to net-zero.”
