Chancellor delivers the UK Autumn Budget 2024

The Chancellor of the Exchequer presented her Autumn Budget to Parliament earlier today (October 30).

Responding, Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said:

“With its Autumn Budget announced today, the UK Government has once again ecognized that the renewable energy industry will play a vital role in helping to grow the UK economy and a sizeable pipeline of projects here in Scotland will be key to this growth plan.

“By setting aside £134 million for port investment, Scottish Renewables is particularly pleased to see the Budget highlight how important the UK’s ports will be for deploying floating offshore wind at scale, and by committing £125m to GB Energy we are pleased that the UK Government is ready to kickstart much needed investment in our clean power projects.

“We are also encouraged that the UK Government has committed to ambitious plans for developing two green hydrogen projects in Scotland and its renewed push on energy efficiency.

“Meanwhile, the UK Government’s soon to be announced industrial strategy is set to establish clean energy as a priority sector and we welcome the promise of multi-year funding that will boost investor confidence in our industry.

“The industrial strategy is set to drive the renewable energy industry into a new era. It is vital that the UK Government continues the close working relationship it has established with our industry and key stakeholders to ensure the strategy maximises the deployment of renewable energy across all sectors including onshore and offshore wind, low-carbon heat and green hydrogen.”
