The UK Government has today opened the Clean Industry Bonus, which will provide additional funding for offshore wind projects bidding through Allocation Round 7 (AR7) of the Contracts for Difference (CfD) scheme, to applications.

Developers will be able to apply for financial support if they drive investment into the UK’s most deprived areas, build low-carbon factories or support clean energy supply chains.

Responding, Andrew MacNish Porter, Head of Economics and Markets at Scottish Renewables, said:

Offshore wind represents Scotland’s greatest economic opportunity and the UK Government’s Clean Industry Bonus has the potential to help bring vital investment to our domestic supply chain.

However, the amount of new funding the Clean Industry Bonus will provide for ports and clean energy manufacturing facilities is dependent on how much offshore wind capacity is delivered through the next round of the Contracts for Difference scheme.

Maximising delivery through AR7 will therefore be crucial for securing benefits for our economy as well as achieving the UK Government’s clean energy targets.
