Clean energy projects prioritised for grid connections

Ofgem is expected to confirm today (April 15) its final Connections Reform process that has been designed to fast-track renewable energy projects which are ready and needed to hit the UK’s clean power targets for 2030 and beyond.
The new connections system, which is expected to be in place for summer 2025, would end the ‘first-come, first-served system’ for clean energy generation and storage projects which has seen the grid connections queue increase ten-fold over the past five years.
Responding, Claire Mack, Chief Executive of Scottish Renewables, said:
“Ramping up the delivery of home-grown clean power projects and kickstarting economic growth depends on building a grid fit for the future. However, an outdated process for connecting to the grid has stood in our way for too long.
“The targeted reforms announced today are welcome and result from close collaboration with industry. We must maintain this momentum by working at pace to fairly demonstrate project readiness and ensure these projects receive timely and secure grid connections.
“Creating the best possible conditions to build and invest in Scotland is paramount for the realisation of our clean power ambitions. We continue to encourage government to take measures which enhance the viability of Scottish projects for the benefit of the whole country.”
