Roundup of 2015 Scottish Green Energy Award winners

The Scottish Green Energy Awards came to Edinburgh's huge EICC last week - and 21 proud winners walked off with trophies. See link below for some pictures those attending might not have spotted were being taken.

The UK’s largest community wind farm, two Orkney marine businesses, and Glasgow-based SgurrEnergy all scooped gongs at the 2015 Scottish Green Energy Awards last week.

The 1,100-attendee event, held in Edinburgh and presided over by Mock the Week favourite Fred MacAulay, saw Scottish Water scoop the Renewing Scotland Award for their work driving down energy bills and cutting carbon emissions with renewable energy – including that generated from the by-products of their waste water treatment process.

The UK’s largest community-owned wind farm, three-turbine Beinn Ghrideag on the Isle of Lewis, was named Best Community Project, while John Cridland, former Director-General of the CBI, was named Champion of Renewables for his work highlighting the UK Government’s impact on renewable energy investment with the many cuts and closures to support schemes since May (2015).

The event heard from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who told how the UK's new reliance on gas and nuclear "signals a backwards step in energy policy" and how Scotland’s communities are now receiving £10 million every year thanks to renewable energy projects, as recorded in the latest update of the Scottish Government’s Community Benefit Register.
