Session 3: Money talks - unlocking investment in infrastructure
Sponsored by Shepherd & Wedderburn
In October 2023 the Scottish Government announced £500 million for the Scottish offshore wind supply chain, something Scottish Renewables has campaigned for many years to bring about. This funding, alongside other initiatives such as the Green Freeport programme, FLOWMIS and recent private investment announcements, underlines the undeniable fact that Scottish ports and associated infrastructure need much development if we are to deliver our offshore wind ambitions.
This session brings together key figures from the finance and supply chain community to explore how we close the gap and unlock the essential investment required for Scottish ports before it is too late.
In this session you will learn:
- How the renewable energy investment landscape has changed - and what we can do to create the environment needed to enable investment in infrastructure as well as turbines
- About the investment options which exist for our ports, as well as how we ensure vital cash is secured in time
- Whether the Floating Offshore Wind Manufacturing Investment Scheme (FLOWMIS) will touch the sides and, if not, what else we need to do to deliver local manufacturing facilities.

Session 7A: The changing requirements of consenting
Sponsored by West of Orkney Windfarm
As the tides of innovation and environmental responsibility surge, so too do the challenges and opportunities surrounding the development of offshore wind projects. Together we’ll uncover the dynamic risk register of consenting issues and the formidable barriers to deployment.
In October, the West of Orkney Windfarm became the first ScotWind project to enter the consenting process. With plans in place for more than 27GW of new offshore wind capacity (13 more West of Orkney projects) to be built over the next decade, obtaining consent is just one of the many steps each of those schemes will have to take before they can start powering our net-zero future.
The key to success lies in rapid and robust progress, leading to a more effective and consistent planning framework aligned with related policies such as the National Planning Framework 4. Our discussion will revolve around crucial updates, including on National Marine Plan 2, the Sectoral Marine Plan, compensation guidelines and Imperative Reasons for Overriding Public Interest (IROPI).
Join us as we chart a course through the shifting landscapes of consenting, seize the opportunity to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the intricate roadmap and profound implications of Scotland’s marine and renewable energy future.

Session 7B: Innovation and targeted oil & gas - the ground-breaking baker’s dozen
In Association with ORE Catapult
INTOG is a world-first leasing round, strategically designed to reduce emissions from oil and gas production while fostering innovation in the renewable energy sector.
Developers of the 13 projects in this dynamic landscape have a unique opportunity to apply for seabed rights, enabling the construction of two types of offshore wind projects: IN for small-scale, innovative endeavours and TOG for projects to cut carbon emissions from connected oil and gas infrastructure. These initiatives align with the North Sea Transition Sector Deal, supporting Scotland’s pathway to net-zero emissions by 2045.
Join us as we bring together experts to discuss the future of INTOG and its place in Scotland’s renewable energy mix.

Session 8A: No Transition without transmission
Sponsored by BlueFloat Energy | Renantis Partnership
With electricity transmission infrastructure at the heart of our journey to net-zero, connecting ScotWind to customers will mean rewiring Great Britain. New cables, pylons and substations will connect green generation to our homes and businesses and transport the clean power required to decarbonise the heat and transport sectors. Investment in our electricity networks will be essential to unlock skills and training opportunities, deliver a boost to local supply chains and make progress towards net-zero by bringing even more renewables onto the grid.
Saying no to power lines, pylons and substations because of how they look holds back economic growth (particularly in the north of Scotland), slows our chance of tackling climate change for future generations and will mean burning more expensive gas, raising energy bills for everyone.
Join us for a captivating session with the companies and stakeholders who will deliver those upgrades. We’ll delve deep into the insights of Electricity Networks Commissioner Nick Winser and ask how his recommendations can supercharge our journey towards a sustainable energy future, ensuring that no wind is left untapped and a just transition is achieved.
This session will look to unearth actionable grid solutions and dig into why investing in electricity transmission infrastructure is a priority for Scotland.
Chair
Christianna Logan Director of Customers and Stakeholders, SSEN Transmission
Speakers
David Robertson Portfolio Director, BlueFloat Energy | Renantis Partnership
Rachel Furlong Senior Development Manager, Corio Generation
David Wildash Head of Customer Connections, National Grid ESO

Session 8B: Harmony in the seas
Join us for an engaging panel debate that will address a pivotal aspect of offshore wind development. Offshore wind energy, oil and gas, the fishing industry and other stakeholders share Scotland’s marine environment, and effective co-existence is vital. This session will explore how we can continue to build stronger relationships with all users of the offshore space, foster collaboration and dialogue to resolve issues and forge a path forward together.
Our expert panellists will explore the challenges and opportunities surrounding co-existence, drawing from real-world experience and opening up on lessons learned. We will discuss sustainable practices, innovative solutions and policies that can harmonise the interests of all stakeholders.

Offshore wind in Scotland currently boasts an installed capacity of 2.1GW, with more than 6,735 jobs and an economic output of £1.15 billion.
But the real excitement lies in ScotWind.
With 20 projects secured under ten-year seabed option agreements, Scotland is on the cusp of a monumental transformation. These projects are set to infuse billions into the Scottish economy, averaging more than £1 billion per project. What’s more, 13 of these new wind farms will use floating turbines, meaning Scotland has the largest pipeline of floating offshore wind anywhere in the world.
The future of offshore wind in Scotland is brimming with potential and this session will keep you updated on the latest developments, challenges and opportunities ahead.
